06.20.10 Splendid Things will be performing at the TWIN CITIES IMPROV FESTIVAL on Saturday, June 26th @ 8:30PM!! Please come check us out. And if you have the means, check out every single other show as well... It's a really incredible line-up this year. 03.30.10 UPDATE!! Some of our April show dates have been moved and added and whatnot... Mostly because of Jesus. Splendid is now at Improv a Go-Go on April 11th and April 18th - no show on the 4th! Also, we're excited to have been added to the line-up for the April 9th Mix Tape, so please do not miss that!! I think that's it. How's poo? 03.24.10 Hello Friends!! It's time to dust off the... Splendid shit, because Splendid Things is performing at Improv a Go-Go the next three Sundays (3/29, 4/4 & 4/11)! Tickets are only $1, and if you can't afford such things, we never even wanted you as a fan in the first place. Michael hates the poor. Also, if you haven't checked it out yet, make sure to come to Show X on Mondays at 8PM at the Bryant-Lake Bowl!! It's a little thing Splendid Things is helping produce... with an insane cast. It's only $5! Again, don't be a poor jerk!! In other news, if you've never been aware that our good friends The Mustache Rangers have an incredible podcast, you now know. If you'd like to make your life a better one, hit them up on iTunes, listen, and give them a review!! It's honestly one of the best things that exists... only beneath the hatred of the poor. Jokes in threes, people. Here endeth the lesson. 02.23.10 Hi guys. It's been... a ridiculously long while. We've been busy, but that's no excuse. It's been months since you've seen us out and about, and you might have heard stories. Stories about us showing our improv to other towns. We flew to Austin, TX (beats the hell out of driving) to help celebrate Gnap! Theater Project's second anniversary, perform some shows, bask in the glory that is Austin improv, teach some workshops, eat some breakfast tacos and soak up some much needed sunshine. It was an honor and a privilege... but please don't be mad, Minneapolis. We were thinking of you the whole time. Looking ahead... we've been working on something. There's this show called Show X that we should probably tell you about. Have you ever had a dream where all your celebrity crushes, loved ones and elementary school best friends formed a parade, lifted you on their shoulders and carried you through the palm groves of Hawaii to a special picnic in your honor? Take that dream and add a very large truck filled with funniness. That's basically what Show X is going to feel like. Seriously. Yeah. We're pretty excited, too. Here's the line up: Lauren Anderson In other words, Splendid Things, HUGE, Five Man Job, Fingergun and Ferrari McSpeedy are getting together to have a baby. Wanna hold it? SHOW DETAILS AND LINKS HERE. See you all there. 12.14.09 Jill Bernard's DRUM MACHINE TONIGHT!!! On top of that, we're once again excited to have many shows coming up in a very small amount of time. Some in the Twin Cities, some in Chicago. CHICAGO: This upcoming weekend we're involved with two shows at The Playground. On Saturday, December 19th, we'll be participating in Improv Actually's The Ultimate Holiday Improv Show @ 10PM, and on Sunday the 20th, we'll be doing Extended Play with none other than the legendary SCRAM! @ 9:30PM. If you've never heard of or seen SCRAM!, it's simply improv legends Jill Bernard and Joe Bill killing you. TWIN CITIES: After that we race home to do the final The Splendid Things Show of the season, and maybe for quite some time. Our guests that evening will be old friends Gay/Straight Alliance. After that, maybe less Facebook links for a bit? 11.30.09 Happy Last Day of November, Improv Heads!! Tonight Splendid Things continues their streak of hosting dynamic improvisational duos by welcoming (once again), The Mustache Rangers!! We say this every time, but if you've never seen them, YOU HATE IMPROV. And you have no idea what magic you are missing, friend. Stop by tonight and become a fan for life. Next Monday (12/07), in honor of Pearl Harbor, we are humbled and excited to announce that Resist Butch will be stepping on to a Twin Cities stage for the first time in eons. Jill Bernard and Butch Roy - LOUD. Be there. $6 tickets are still available for that one. Go and grab em up! 11.20.09 Monday, November 23rd... They're both big deals. Tickets. 11.07.09 SO MANY SHOWS. Come see them all. On Sunday, November 8th Splendid Things is honored to have been invited to perform in a special Improv a Go-Go set. Go and look at the line-up. It's going to be a shit ton of fun. For the Monday, November 9th The Splendid Things Show we are extremely excited that our guest will once again be Foterson!! They were incredible the last time around and we wanted to make sure to sneak them in one more time before our run ends. Monday is that day!! Go here for your $6 tickets (grab em before 11:59PM on Sunday). On Sunday November 15th we're back in Chicago for a some Extended Play!!! If you're in Chicago, or know someone that's in Chicago that you think would enjoy this - GO and/or TELL THEM. The show is at The Playground and is FREE!! We'd love to see tons of you there. And finally for our Monday, November 16th The Splendid Things Show our special guest is the Gay/Straight Alliance! Will Tim finally kiss Doug?!? Probably not. Tickets here. That's four times you can see us in two weeks for a total of $13. Don't be an asshole. We'll see you at Every. Single. Show.
10.26.09 For tonight's show, we're taking a little risk, and trying out a couple kids who call themselves Foterson. I'm guessing they'll do well as they seem to be a couple spunky kids with a future. Please, TELL YOUR FRIENDS. November is shaping up to be a busy month as we're headed back to Chicago for a little Extended Play!! That's going to be on November 15th at The Playground. We're fucking pumped. Please, TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Also, our November line up for The Splendid Things Show is seeing some familiar faces and not so familiar. Jill Bernard shall return in one form or another (I'm hoping a lemur), and... need we say more? Please, TELL YOUR FRIENDS. Oh, and tell yourself too. 10.12.09 Tonight: Five Man Job Next week: Ferrari McSpeedy Easily two of the best improv groups in the Twin Cities - nay, the surrounding... seven states (figure it out!)!!! Are you seriously not going to be there? 10.05.09 Sorry about the lack of news this past week, but I'm happy to say that we've been busy doing a bunch of stuff, which hasn't lead to a ton of time to type about it. Our show in Chicago was a blast! Thank you to Tyler and Dave for setting it up and having us over! Also ginormous thanks to The Playground for the space, to Lisa Lohman for sheltering us in Chicago, and to Hannah's Mom, Richard, and Don Diego for... well... you know. Hopefully the whole thing willl happen again very soon. Tonight we're sharing the stage with the Gay/Straight Alliance. You should come. 09.24.09 Attention CHICAGO friends!! We are doing a show this Sunday, September 27 @ The Playground Theater!! The show begins at 9:30PM, and we would love to see you there!! Our allies Tyler Samples and Dave Jennings of Extended Play have been kind enough to welcome our sad asses down to Chi-town for some stage time, and we're very excited to accept. Go here for more information. The day after our travels is yet another edition of The Splendid Things Show... this time with ADORABLE (Butch Roy, Jen Scott, and Josh Eakright). Read the names in the parentheses again and try to explain why you wouldn't be there. Then admit you're dumb. 09.21.09 Just in case, tonight's guests are THE MUSTACHE RANGERS. If you've never seen them, you should. No, really. 09.11.09 Austin was amazing. Thank you so much to all the OoB Staff and fellow comedy folk there for making us feel so welcome and happy!! If you're an improviser and you're reading this, I suggest applying to Out Of Bounds in 2010 and getting your ass to Texas - you won't be disappointed. We have a show opening!! The Splendid Things Show is taking to the stage this Monday, at 8PM at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, with special guests Five Man Job!!!! Go here for tickets.
It sounds repetative to say over and over, but we mean it - word of mouth is really the only way this show can survive. If you like what we do and want to help us out, please tell people you know about the show and get them to come! We love doing it and we'd love your support! Thank you in advance. Love always, Splendid Things 09.01.09 See you in Austin, everybody!! Follow the trip on Twitter! 08.10.09 Hi, Lovely Jerks!! It's August! It's the eighth month of the year. We're all two-thirds in. How's it going for you? Some upcoming show dates and reminders: August 16th, Splendid will be visiting it's old fave Improv a Go-Go! Stop by and check it out. It's summer, which is the busy season for IAGG, so get there early!! September 3rd and 4th we're very excited to be taking the stage(s) at the Out of Bounds Improv Festival in Austin, TX. If you're a Splendid Things fan within a 6 hour driving distance, we highly suggest you tell your friends, drive them all in, pay, and then look at us intently while we do our show(s)! Be there. Also, see the other groups if you have the means. Many old friends (Ferrari McSpeedy, Five Man Job, HUGE, Adorable) will be performing, Eric will also be on stage with Fingergun, the whole thing is produced by Five Man Job and HUGE... It's gonna rock. 06.01.09 Did we say, "...tomorrow" ? Oopsee poopsee!! It's been a busy fucking week people. We're Splendid Things after all. So let's cut to the quick... Part Two: Future News Now Where to see Splendid Things this summer... ? Splendid Things is proud to announce that we've been chosen for this year's line up for the 3rd Annual Twin Cities Improv Festival! As you can see by the schedule, Splendid is closing things out Sunday night - which is either a true honor, in that Butch & the Gang trust us to wrap things up with an unparalled comedy sucker punch to the audience's collective gut, OR they're so embarrassed by us that they're making sure a lot of the out-of-towners are already on their way home before they see our ugly faces. Either way, come see the show - Sunday, June 28th - and go check out as many other shows as you can that weekend (we hear Fingergun is pretty damn amazing). It's an improv festival, people!! Speaking of which, Splendid Things is also honored to announce that we've been accepted into the Out Of Bounds Improv Festival in Austin, TX, which takes place September 1st-7th!! It looks like we're taking to two of their four stages on the evenings of 09/03 & 09/04. If you're in the neighborhood - we would love to see you there!! For real. Last but not least we have some Improv a Go-Go dates in late August. We might have to switch one Sunday around, so we won't post the exact dates yet. Keep an eye out at the IAGG site, and go there every Sunday this summer. Other things are in the works, but we don't want to be those dicks who talk about things and never produce the goods. Some hinty words? Video poop, voice drama... animation? All things we're elbow deep in and hoping to get to your eyes and ears as soon as possible. More sooner than "tomorrow". 05.26.09 A thank you to Michael for blogging and therefore reminding us that we need to update our news a little bit... Part One: Past News First. On May 17th, Splendid Things was honored to perform at Improv a Go-Go's 7th Anniversary Show. It's always fun to perform for the IAGG crowds - even that annoying fucker who keeps yelling out, "Matt Damon!" Thanks to Butch Roy and Five Man Job for asking us to be a part of it. The following day, on May 18th, our first run at the Bryant-Lake Bowl came to an end. 10 weeks, 10 shows, and we're damn excited about the results. The BLB has asked Splendid Things back in September to do a little more of the same (put on a fucking good improv show), and sans fame and riches calling us from one of the industry coasts, we're going to oblidge them. With that said, we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the help and support of some people who helped make this small victory possible... First up, the "friends" - the groups who performed with us at A Splendid Evening... Ferrari McSpeedy, Five Man Job, Gay/Straight Aliance, HUGE, Hellendrung, Scott & Assoc., Adorable and The Mustache Rangers all showed up in full guinea pig mode and contributed some amazing improv - instantly elevating our show, and allowing us to boast about it to anyone who would listen. If you ever see any of these groups headed on to a stage to do some improv, please do yourself the favor of stopping to watch them. They're good. They're really, really good. Secondly, we humbly thank anyone who came out to see our show. Thank you. It genuinely means a lot to us that you came, and we hope to see you back in the fall. We definitely promise more of the same (see above). So without further ado, Splendid Things is happy to announce The Splendid Things Show, which will begin September 14th, 2009 at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, and run AT LEAST through December. More tomorrow... 05.08.09 A HUGE (pun?) congratulations to Splendid Friends Nels Lennes and his wife Seniz on their day-old, brand spankin' new baby girl, Banu Yargici Lennes. I shant steal the thunder from that too much, so I'll just mention that there are ONLY TWO A Splendid Evenings... left. One takes place near you, this Monday, and the special guest stars are The (fucking) MUSTACHE RANGERS. The weather is getting warm. Help us fill those seats. Make your and your friends' reservations now. 04.28.09 For right now, first and foremost, check out these videos we made for one of our most favorite sponsors, The Smitten Kitten. You'll learn quite a lot about... us - Splendid Things. And also a lot about an excellent place to shop for all your lovin' needs. A day ago we had a fuckuva show with the gentlemen from Gay/Straight Alliance. For those of you wondering, NO, Tim Hellendrung did not achieve his goal of having 45 people at the door, thereby changing the name of our show to include his. He did however, achieve at bringing a friend that hit on at least 45 women through the course of the evening. Well played, Hellendrung. Well played. You win nothing... and I don't think your friend won anything either. On Monday, May 4th A Splendid Evening... will welcome Adorable. Butch Roy, Jen Scott and Josh Eakright will take to the BLB stage and blow the collective minds of all who are in attendance. Then we'll come out and sweep up the mess - much like Sandman at The Apollo. Yes, much like that. Get your $6 tickets here! 4.21.09 Seek this movie out. It's amazing and inspiring. It's truly the best representation of improv I've ever seen committed to film (or HD files, at least). TJ and Dave may be the best. Period. Finally, in a bit of sad news, one of our sponsors Cinema Revolution, will be closing it's doors on April 29th. It seems the world of Netflix and Red Box has caught up with the store momentarily, but I doubt John and the CR crew will be going down without a fight. Keep an eye right here for more information on the next incarnation of the Cinema Revolution Universe. We hope to see them back on their feet very soon.
4.14.09 This past week was a busy one at Splendid Industries. Some video was shot (check the A/V page soon), some text was written & rewritten, and currently some forms are being filled out. More announcements to come in the days ahead. For now all we ask is that you go and buy your ticket for next week's show so you don't miss out. Our special guests will be the awesomeness of Hellendrung, Scott & Associates. *For now. 4.8.09 There's a few exciting things in the works, but the time isn't right yet. We'll just start today by letting you know that our next show is gonna have The Mustache Rangers there. Have you ever seen The Mustache Rangers? They will change your life. Tell everyone. You're all we have. 4.6.09 Do not miss it. 4.1.09 Next week we have HUGE Theater as our guests. Oh. My. Lord. We would normally say, "Need we say more?" But I feel we should... The more the merrier. The more butts in seats, the more laughs you will have. We have been so grateful for the houses we've had so far, but we don't want it to stop. What are you waiting for? $6 for advance tickets!! A Monday! Get off your behinds and come have the funniest night of your week. We're excited for you to see this damn show, and we hope to see you there. 3.25.09 With that, the hits keep on coming. This coming Monday (3.30.09) our guests are none other than the "Bizzaro Us", Five Man Job. We've heard these children are excited to do some improvisation, and we thought they could use some stage time. As always, get your tickets before Monday and they're only $6. 03.23.09 03.17.09 Next week, Monday 3.23.09, our guests will be Tim Hellendrung and Doug Neithercott, the Gay/Straight Alliance! 03.08.09 For our opening show on March 16, we will have special guest Ferrari McSpeedy with us! |
